Job Description

Position: Program Manager, Reimagine Albany Program

Hiring Entity: Albany Riverfront Collaborative

Partner Entities:  Arbor Hill Development Corporation, AVillage, Capital Area Urban League, Clean + Healthy. 

Status: Contract, Part-time, Fully Remote

Requirements: Resident of Albany 

Timeline for Position: 52 weeks, starting as soon as possible. 

Compensation: Approximately  $23,000 - $25,000 (for 52 weeks) 

Who We’re Looking For

This contract position requires a dynamic individual with exceptional communication and organizational skills to inspire, collaborate, and mobilize others. A successful PM will be committed to promoting diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice. The PM will proactively engage stakeholders throughout the target area to build on existing relationships, partnerships, and collaborations and forge new ones, including with historically underrepresented communities. The PM will work with all program partners, Arbor Hill Development Corporation, AVillage, Capital Area Urban League, Clean+Healthy, and ARC, to support and facilitate the objectives of the Reimagine Albany Program. This will include assisting partners with planning and executing Reimagine Albany projects and events and participating in partner organizations' existing programs and events as relevant. 

Role Description 

The PM of the Reimagine Albany Program will facilitate and support strategies set and overseen by the Program Steering Committee and implement the program and associated projects, events, and initiatives to achieve those strategic goals. The PM will work closely with all partner organizations, including Arbor Hill Development Corporation, AVillage, Capital Area Urban League, Clean+Healthy, and ARC, and develop strategies to best support and assist each partner with their respective tasks and projects as outlined in the Reimagine Albany Program scope of work.  This may include, but is not limited to: 

  • program management; 

  • community outreach; 

  • event planning and facilitation; 

  • communication with partner organizations, community, media, etc.; 

  • all levels of administrative work to move the Reimaging Albany Program forward; and 

  • assistant with ARC Administrative Management (see below). 

Of the weekly allocated hours, 20% will be allocated to the Administrative Management of ARC.  This will involve directly managing the tasks associated with operating the nonprofit. Tasks may include: information management, file management, correspondence, communications, liaising between the Board, ARC Members, and Partners, and assisting the Board with ARC programs, projects, meetings, and events.


Standard of Performance 

The first set of deliverables in the role of PM will be to define and agree upon expectations. The PM will work with the Steering Committee and ARC Board to develop expectations 1) for the Steering Committee 2) for the PM role, and 3) a MOU of mutual support strategies. 

  • Reviews will be “180” meaning the performance review will take two points of evaluation into account — the managing team’s evaluation and the PM's self-evaluation. 

  • The formal review will occur once per year (date TBD). The structure of the review process is the responsibility of the Steering Committee.

  • As this is a new contract position, an informal mid-year review will take place approximately six months after the PM’s start date. This informal review will allow the PM and partners to provide feedback on the PM role, and  reevaluate expectations and goals. 

  • As the PM works with multiple partners, the review will be conducted by a committee with representation from each partner organization.

Key Responsibilities of the Program Manager include:

  • Leadership of Reimagine Albany Program Initiatives

  • Operational and Program Planning for Reimagine Albany Program 

  • Reimagine Albany Program and Project Implementation

  • Reimagine Albany Program Event Planning and Facilitating 

  • Reimagine Albany Program Development

  • Administrative Management of the Reimagine Albany Program and ARC.  

Qualifications for the Program Manager are: 

  • demonstrated record of program management, program development, project implementation, and problem-solving;

  • demonstrated success in grassroots relationship-building and community advocacy;

  • experience planning and managing events; 

  • demonstrated ability to facilitate, lead, manage, and supervise a team; 

  • comfort and ability to represent the collaborative work of the program to the community;

  • demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion through continuous development, modeling inclusive behaviors, and proactively managing bias with board, staff, and community.

Successful candidates will be:

  • Leaders with at least 3 years of management experience in a nonprofit or community program management; 

  • Self-directed with high attention to detail;

  • Organized and flexible; capable of developing and implementing a work plan, while juggling multiple planned and unforeseen demands daily; and 

  • Fluent with a Google suite of applications, Microsoft Office suite, Zoom, and other cloud or remote computing platforms, or the ability to learn these programs quickly. 

Working for ARC and the Reimagine Albany Program

The compensation for this position will be $23,000-$25,000. The contract period runs for 52 weeks, starting as soon as possible. 

This contract role has a flexible work schedule and is entirely remote-access except for specific on-location events and several planned in-person meetings a year. The contractor will report to the Steering Committee of the Reimagine Albany Program and the ARC Board of Directors.

Time Tracking: Hours will be reported on an agreed schedule. These hours will be monitored and reviewed by ARC and reported back to the Steering Committee at regular meetings.
